DjarHalar quietly slipped out of the null point at NAF778. Its mission and the mission of its Djian crew is to map subVerse pathways and to establish stable transit gates at the null points. Almost immediately the crew and ship become aware of an extraordinary anomaly. Orbiting the null point is a massive gravity well, the space around the null point is clearly warped in the usual pattern caused by planetary bodies with moons. Null points often have orbiting bodies such as planets and various celestial debris. The unusual thing about this null point is that there is no detectable presence of a world where the large gravity well is. Nothing, nothing in any of the electromagnetic spectra to indicate the presence of a massive world except for the gravity well and attendant dimples in space indicating the existence of moons. An invisible world with invisible moons.DjarHalar fires off a message capsule back through the null point. EcolAsh WGG085 will be very intrigued by this amazing discovery.

Battle of Fyrstwudu - Arrival on Morlond Part I

30. september 2011, by neswulf

"Lower the hatch!" screamed Eadgar Leofscyld, captain of the starcraft, 'Fyrearn 47.2'.The craft had spent the last two hundred years - and five generations of Monninga, travelling from Hastelc, the launch base planet in the Scytel system, to Mōrlond in Fyrearn, 61 light years away."On a hunch. On nothing more than a bloody hunch. My great great grandparents made a stupid decision based on the ramblings of a mad man." Exclaimed Stanric as he fumbled with the strap to his provision pack. Ealdraed cast a discerning glance his way."Get a grip Stan. Langsight was not a 'mad man'. He was a renowned seer, venerated by all in his day - and obviously so by your ancestors. Don't disrespect him or them".An uneasy tense atmosphere hung in the air, as the Monninga troops assembled in front of the lower hatch, that would lead them for the first time onto the marshy ground outside Fyrstwudu on the planet Mōrlond. They were battle ready. This is what they had trained for. What they had been born for.It was over two hundred years earlier, in the year 2270 back on Hastelc, that Wiglaf Langsight, a great seer - one who can see far into the future - saw a coming war between the Monninga and the natives of Mōrlond, the Baldén. So known and trusted was Langsight, that a fleet was prepared and launched from Hastelc based on his prediction. Thousands of Monninga were recruited - in the full knowledge that several generations of their future family would be born, live and die on board the craft. But it was worth it for the majority, as being part of a battle fleet, even in the knowledge that you would be no more than an ancestor to your battle-kin, was a source of huge honour. And each generation of Monninga on board would grow to hold their ancestors in high esteem. Though there was always one like Stanric, who felt an innate pull back to the homeworld - and in moments of anxiety, laid the blame for any troubles on the actions of ancestors.Ealdraed was quick to put Stanric back on track."Your thinking is not the Monninga way. Your ancestors acted out of honour - if they could have been here themselves, with the chance of a glorious death in battle, they would have been. Instead, they knew that their ancestor - you Stanric, would uphold the family honour on the field of battle"."Listen!" called Eadgar over the low rumble of the hatch lowering, as a band of light poured through and illuminated the faces of the troops."Our kin have lived on this planet for many centuries. They have always lived here under the law of the Baldén. But this law is no longer fit for our folk. It goes against the very nature of our culture, our family and tribal ties.We cannot keep our population down to just two birthers for each family. You all know well enough, the teachings of Hammac. Our families should consist of five birthers. You have read the 1098 truce on our kin's settlement here. The Baldén refuse to change it based on our folks needs. The Baldén refuse to grant our kin access to the Garstal in the ground. The very fibre of construction. Why should our kin have to live like Mevs in crude buildings, when the Baldén live like kings in their caves? Why should our kin be made second class citizens after sharing Monninga technology with the Baldén?It is time to free our folk of the shackles placed on them by the first ones!"A great cheer rose from the troops, echoing across the marshland as the morning light from Fyrearn cut through the low hanging mist now visible through the open hatch. Leofscyld's speech was having the right effect on his men."As we speak, and for the last fifty or so years, after the Baldén's so called retreat in year 2414, they have been massing in their underground settlements, becoming battle ready. They have built an army under the feet of our kin. We knew this would happen, thanks to study of the texts left to us by the great seer, Wiglaf Langsight".Stanric muttered something under his breath, resulting in a sharp glance from Ealdraed."We've all trained for this", called Eadgar "let's leave for the Fyrstwudu, and reach the garrison of our cousins there".

Battle of Fyrstwudu, Mōrlond 2473

27. september 2011, by neswulf

A timeline of the events leading up to the Battle of Fyrstwudu, Mōrlond, Fryearn system, between the native dwarf like underground dwelling species called 'Baldén' and the 'Monninga' colonials from the Scytel system.History:From the 2390s, hostilities between the Monninga and Baldén on Mōrlond were reignited. The Baldén argued that the Monninga had broken 'The Truce Of Arrival' (1038), set in place shortly after the arrival of the first Monninga on Mōrlond, which stipulated where the Monninga could settle, set a limit to their population on Mōrlond, and prohibited mining anywhere on the planet. The Monninga protested that they had no choice but to mine, as the Baldén were restricting the amount of a mineral called 'Garstal' that they could have access to. The Baldén gave the reason for this as the Monninga had broken another section of the truce, which restricted population and where they could settle. The Baldén claimed that they would happily supply the original agreed amount of Garstal (the Monninga construct using Garstal), but the Monninga population (higher than agreed in the truce) meant the amount of Garstal required exceeded that which the Baldén were supplying.Timeline:In 2392, the Monninga started mining for their own Garstal, in contravention of the agreement in the truce. In 2393, the Baldén collapsed a Monninga mine from underneath before it was officialy working.2399 - The Monninga opened a new mine in restricted territory, at Brocburh.2408 - The Baldén collapsed the Brocburh mine from underneath, causing the death of 261 Monninga and the destruction of mining machinery. The nearby Brocburh settlement was also partially destroyed by subsidence from the mine collapse. The Monninga struck back by fire-gassing a nearby Baldén settlement, killing 1232.2409 to 2412 - Minor scuffles caused by groups of Baldén surfacing in the Monninga settlement of Fyrstwudu. The Monninga sealed the entranceway.2414 - The Baldén back down and allow Monninga land use, retreating to their underground settlements.2461 - After a period of peace with no interaction between the species, a deep Monninga mine breaches the walls of a hidden Baldén settlement. The Baldén collapse sections of the mine, killing all Monninga.2472 - 30,000 Monninga arrive in battlecraft from Hastelc, sent on prediction of Wiglaf Langsight the seer some 200 years earlier. The Monninga discover that the Baldén's retreat of 2414 was a diversion, as they had retreated to bring a false sense of security to the Monninga whilst they built an army. The Baldén surface and destroy one of the battlecraft.2473 - The Baldén collapse a huge section of Fyrstwudu. The Monninga strike back, invading the Baldéns tunnels that they discover run underneath many Monninga settlements. War at Fyrstwudu and the surrounding area lasts for 14 years, with the Monninga taking the final victory after many thousands of losses on both sides.

The Legend of the First Ones

31. august 2011, by thegreatpl

Before the Enlightenment, there were beliefs that we wer the center of everything. Then, the Ascended One Came, and declared that we were not. He proved to us that he was a god, and declared that he was but one of many. He showed us many miracles. Told many stories. And proved to us that we were but one race among many. That the universe was billions of years old and we were inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. And we were humbled before it. Then one of us asked the question: Where did the first life ever come from? And the Ascended One Pondered this. And then did answer. He declared that when the Universe was Young, an almighty fleet of ships appeared. And Lo, the inhabitants looked eagerly out upon the new Universe. Then though, did the First Argument take place:Where is the Life? one asked.Where are the Planets? one declared. **** the Planets, where are the Stars?!? one challenged. Then the Ferrymen replied: They have yet to form. And there was silence. You mean to tell me that you dumped us in a universe so young that it has nothing? One challenged. But how are we to survive here? one asked. We paid a lot of money for this! one declared. Then the Ferrymen replied: Look, you ******** already destroyed one Universe, why should we dump you in another populated one so you can do it again? And there was silence. What if we promise not to do it again? asked one. And there was silence. Then the Ferrymen replied: Let us consider this: out of the trillions of years of our existence and knowledge and history, you are the first race to manage to destroy a universe accidently. We are still trying to figure out how you did it in the first place. So no.And there was silence. And much considering of artwork. Then the Ferrymen declared: Now, goodbye. We have done as you asked, and saved you from your home Universe. And the Ferrymen was gone. And there was silence. Soooooo, what now? one asked. When asked the moral of this story, the Ascended one answered:Never trust a bunch of multiverse traders to save you after you have destroyed a universe. *******. Then one of us asked to see the faces of the First Ones. And all gasped at this sacrilege. And the Ascended One did smile, and revealed unto us it's own image. And Lo, did we gasp. Then one of us dared ask the name of these First Ones. And Lo, the Ascended One did answer:Canthin***"And that is what I did for the last century" finished Reeon the ascended Canthin. "Convinced a bunch of ignorant primitives that the Canthin are the rightful owners of the universe?" asked Saffron, from where she lay on the bed, head upside down. "Hey, the story is true!" defended Reeon. "Really? Then how come the Canthin look exactly the same then? Tell me that then" "It just proves that our genetics are superior!""Oh yeah?""Well, no. If we ascended didnt meddle all the time the Canthin would have long wiped ourselves out. We can barely go a few thousand years before destroying ourselves in an orgy of violence. But hey, at least the Canthin hold the record for number of Galaxies destroyed by a single race!" "Thats not really something to be proud of" Trair said, speaking for the first time where he sat writing at a desk "and it is not so much they own the universe as they were imprisoned here"
