Hi, I want to start a new science fiction epic

I want to start a new science fiction epic. I don't know how's the previous method on this site or whether you have to get to know every1 deeply before you begin writing with them (proly not, since how could you do so) ,.

but anyway, i want to start a new epic since a few of the old ones i've seen are pretty old.

i want there to be many heros but i'd rather have a very few good ones rather than a whole bunch of mediocre barely written ones. I also want some antagonists that are mean and nasty or just cruel.

i don't know what's the previous method or framework but i think it'd be best to use the forums to workout a storyboard and a character list and get the framework working right before writing it all.

gl hf.

maybe one that encompasses past epics so that way they use the same places and a bit of the same ppl (if they didn't die yet) but with a new antagonist and plot? something like chaos wars 2 or something. but seriously, i haven't read chaos wars 1

tt

ps: i'd also like to cowrite a story with someone. it'd be fun and i've never done it before (except just the planning stages)

On the subject of Epics: most of the Epics we have at some point written have dried up before completion. I think the exception to this was TS1.

So I think if you do do an epic, an entirely new and separate plot and characters would be advised.
If you can come up with a good idea, I may feel like joining you.

cool. let's write something up, but if the previous dried up before completion, then let's make a story board and not start until we have a clear beginning/middle/ and ending.

by middle, i don't mean like an actual middle, just anything that's not the very beginning (where we introduce the characters - i'm not very clear on that at all) nor the end (where the big sequence of events come together and the very big problem for our characters get solved (or not solved) but in any case it's finished)

can you give me the problems that have occurred throughout the epics you have written.

i know there was a big race that killed everything its path. but the big problem should be something that could be like a second version of a previous problem but i don't want to write something that's almost a clear mirror of something that's been done before

also in terms of problems, i think we should get a list of possible antagonists to make sure that we can have a clear bad guy

and then from that, we can make our good guys. or we can make our good guys and then create the bad guys

i'm not one of those people who like stories where there are good guys on both sides. i want one side to be really bad and the other side to have the morally good motivation to beat the really bad or to just survive the really bad

so here's a list of things that could exist within this epic (categories):
possible bad guys
possible good guys
ways to introduce the good guys
ways to introduce the bad guys
the big problem for the good guys
the situation that the good guys are in
motivations of good guys and bad guys
tech
social /societal

if there's anything u like to add, do it now!

possible big bad problems (or bad guys, but if it's like an environmental disaster, then the bad guy is the disaster)
- a sun goes supernova, causing an entire civilization to run away in lifeboats and the story will be about their survival as a race and the things they encounter
- a big bad eater race that consumes all and the story will be about survival against these odds
- nations at war, in which one nation is clearly the antagonist and the good guys are the ones reacting to the offensive actions of the bad nation
- a game story where the good guys are gladiators and they must fight other gladiators in order to free themselves or just to live because they're slaves to the fighting. the bad guys would be the bad gladiators who fight them as well. gladiators doesn't have to be actual roman gladiators. they could be interstellar gladiator captains or pilots
- ppl with disadvantages that must make a way of life in a society filled with superppl
-

i would really like a point where we can really edit our good guys. these good guys should be the main characters and they should be really really sympathetic to ppl.

also, if any1 else who like to join that'd be great. but if it's just you and me then i think we can ignore the other thread

or since the previous epics weren't finished, maybe we can try finishing them?

Okay. I'm fine with blatant good guys and bad guys, just so long as the bad guy isn't: "I will do whatever evil thing it is I am doing just because I am so evil," and its more like: "I will do whatever evil thing it is I am doing because I have some sort of half decent motive, or I am fucked up in the head."

My personal preference would be for some sort of story with some violence in it, so I wouldn't really be too happy with a 'surviving against nature' type story. I like epic battles (in space, on sea, or on land. It doesn't matter), so some nations fighting against each other would be cool.

As for finishing the current epics, all I can say is that that is not a good plan at all.

well, let's make the typical 1 big race tries to kill the little race story.

let's reuse the same big race from previous epics because
1) you can tie them together at one point, as in tie epics together
2) knowledge about these nemesises have already been made

also, if we are to do this.. this old nemesis should have new adaptations that make it more cruel, difficult.. just so it isn't boring..

maybe an ancient race that was the predecessor to a previous nemesis? or an evolutionary product of an old nemesis (or a technological revolution in one

Big empire attacks is good. Its a classic.

I'm reluctant to reuse old enemies or such. It shouldn't be too hard to throw an evil empire together. I have some ideas already.

Basically, I was thinking, for either to good side or the bad side, of a nation run by three or four really huge conglomerates.

what type of conglomerates? business conglomerates? what will our characters be? army staff hired by businesses or presidents of these businesses?

if it's bad, i can see how a nation lead by businesses can lead to war... actually, it might have some pretty bad stuff in there, i like it.

business model : for whatever costs, profit

Yeah. Our smaller nation could have a large deposit of some rare ore or something, which causes the evil companies to attack it.

The characters, for this evil nation, would be the CEOs and various company officials, as well as a few military guys.

Now, the good guys... I dunno. I'm not to good at making up good guys.

how about our smaller nation has something that the big nation wants? ppl. they want to enslave our smaller nation into their cybernetic workforce. of course, they could enslave their own population, and they do, but only the very rich can ensure themselves "freedom" from cybernetic enslavement
